Marshall School 5th graders won 1st Place in the Poster / Patch contest at the Reaching for the Stars 2010 conference.  They received certificates, a class party and got to meet Astronaut Jose Hernandez.

 Governing Board Member Gloria Allen and Acting Principal for Marshall Elementary School Cecilia Moran were treated to a New Year’s Reading Celebration in the classroom of Kindergarten teacher Lori Muller-Gray.  Ms. Allen, and Ms. Moran, along with parents, listened to Kindergarten students reading their take home books after donning their special New Year’s hats.  This New Year's Reading celebration includes a Parent /Grandparent 4th Instructional Observation.  A team of approximately 54 family members have committed to work with Mrs. Lori Muller-Gray by attending these semi- monthly meetings to ensure that each child will have the opportunity and self -esteem to reach their goal of proficiency and advanced levels of reading before their entry to 1st grade. Congratulations to these SUSD families!

Marshall Elementary School students, staff, and parents came together to raise $1,756 for the Haitian Relief Effort organized by Red Cross. Mr. Nicholas O’Neill, Board Member for the Red Cross, visited Marshall School to talk about the relief effort and show a short video on the effects of the recent earthquake in Haiti. After Mr. O’Neil explained to the students the functions of the Red Cross organization, he answered questions and was presented with the donation check.
